Certificate in Person Centred CounsellingThis course is intended to produce counsellors who are skilled and aware. The emphasis is on the Rogerian, or client-centred, style of counselling. The client or person-centred core of the course is integrated with the student’s own growth and development. Students are encouraged to explore and develop their own style of counselling within the framework of accurate empathy and compassion. Faculty: Director of Training, Sam Luxemburg, is assisted by graduates of The Lux College. Guest faculty may be invited on occasion. Accreditation: This course is recognised by the Counsellors’ and Psychotherapists’ Association of Victoria (CAPAV) and meets their standards for membership. Assessment: Students will be continually assessed via classroom activities, videotaped practice sessions and written assignments. There are no written examinations and there is no grading. Course Structure: The course is four 20-week semesters over at least two years, with a minimum of 300 classroom hours. The emphasis is on practical skills, with about 20 per cent theory and 80 percent practise. Each semester consists of weekly classes (3 hours each) plus 2 full-day workshops. Basic Skills Training - 6 weeksTUESDAYS - Woodend 6.30 pm to 9.00 pm, 47 Forest Street - Tuesday 14th February This practical hands-on course in Person-Centred Counselling meets the entry requirement for the Certificate in Personal Counselling. Students may attend prior to enrolment in the Certificate course or during the first semester. It may also be taken as a stand alone course without further commitment. Structure:The course is six sessions.
